Police Investigating Credit Card Thefts After 125 Stolen Cards Found At Walgreens

Usually consumers only have a few credit cards on hand when making a purchase at Walgreens. So when three people came into a New Jersey store with 125 credit cards between them, employees got a little suspicious – and rightfully so.

NorthJersey.com reports that police are investigating credit card thefts and fraud after seizing more than 125 stolen cards from three people at a local Walgreens store over the weekend.

Police responded to the Walgreens store around 4:30 p.m. Saturday on a report of three suspicious people, authorities say.

Upon arrival police discovered the people had an excessive number the credit cards in their possession and had just purchased a $125 Apple gift card from the store.

The suspects had more gift cards on them, but only one Walgreens receipt. It was unclear where the other gift cards came from.

According to authorities the cards came from all over the U.S. In fact, a Mississippi resident called the local police department after her credit card company reported it was used in Walgreens where the three individuals were arrested.

“It’s definitely part of something larger,” a police official tells NorthJersey.com.

Two of the individuals, who were in the store when police arrived, were charged with credit card theft, fraud, fraudulent use of credit cards and wrongful impersonation.

A third suspect, who was waiting outside the Walgreens store, was charged with fraudulent use of credit cards and credit card theft.
